Paula Rasmus Dede
Paula Rasmus Dede is an Aleut (Alaska Native) artist who has been working with beads since her childhood. As a small child she learned to single string trade beads from a small jar of her grandmother’s trade beads. She would string the beads and then cut the thread and put the beads back into the jar.

As an adult, Paula has rediscovered beading and uses indigenous techniques such as the peyote stitch and niedble weaving in creating contemporary jewelry and art objects. Paula strives to create lush, unusual pieces. A hallmark of Paula’s work is the vivid color combinations she uses. Many of her works display an riotous use of color.

Her work has been exhibited and toured nationally and throughout Alaska in The Embellished Shoe, a juried all-Alaska art show, and in the Earth, Fire and Fiber Show.

A resident of Thunderbird Fall in Peter’s Creek, Alaska, near Anchorage, Paula is employed in the banking industry. She has traveled extensively throughout Alaska, including sailing and living aboard her 42 foot schooner in Prince William Sound for a year. Her other interests include interior desing, writing, gardening, traveling, and her new status as a grandmother.
