Personal Statement
For the last 20 years, I’ve explored images of everyday objects on quilts, artists’ books, and most often in watercolor on paper – and exhibited the products in more than 15 solo shows and many group shows. Individual flowers and gardens most interest me. In real life I like best gardens and flowers which serve to focus the imagination, and I strive to do that in a painting. Making art from flowers and gardens has led to some wonderful adventures – from an installation at the Decker/Morris Annex Gallery featuring a window garden full of herbs, geraniums, green grass, and a leafed-out tree in April in Alaska to writing about a three day visit to England’s Sissinghurst Castle Garden. Long ago, I earned a BA in English from Alaska Methodist University and an MA in Illustration from Syracuse University. I live in Anchorage with my family including Bill, a black and white dog, and Frances, a black and white cat.
